Rodney returns to us
after a brief
5 year hiatus in order to watch his son
(Ben)
play through
his
high school career.
He previously
coached
football for
20 years
at all levels
including
9 of them at
the
high school
varsity
level
in which he was
pulling
double duty
coaching both
at the high
school and youth level.
As the high school’s
head defense
coordinator,
he was
instrumental
in putting two
conference
championships
and several runner-up seasons
together
for the
Panthers. He
started coaching
at the youth level
back in 1980
when the league only
had 8 teams. He brings
many
years of experience
back to the program
and we’re very excited to have him back once
again.
According to Coach Mattrisch:
“The two reasons I
like coaching is
#1…
I
love the game of
football
and
#2…
watching how
the kids progress
from 4th
grade all the way to
their senior year. My son was one of those
kids. It’s an
indescribable
feeling! I
recall my last year at the youth level before I
took a break saying to some parents that
when this 8th
grade bunch become seniors in high school, they
will win
the
conference
championship not only because of their talent,
but more
importantly
because of
their togetherness. I
was right because
last year’s 2005 varsity team went undefeated
and did
indeed take the conference crown along with a
couple of playoff victories to boot.
What is neat is that
my son Ben was on this
high school
team as well as that
8th
grade team 5 years ago.
What’s even neater
than that
is that
Greendale’s
current high school
head coach
(Rob Stoltz)
played for me
too.
That’s what
I’m talking about!”
